Adopting a Dog through the Newfoundland Club of Seattle & SPDR
Suki |
You may ask yourself, what is a rescue dog? The term "Rescue" usually refer to dogs that are in pounds or shelters that have been abandoned. Sometimes, owners may contact a rescue organization to give up their dogs. Often, dogs in rescue have specific needs as they may have been neglected, abused, or poorly bred, which may lead to special medical attention throughout their lives. Sometimes, these dogs have been shifted from home to home, and may be shy and need time to become accustomed to members of the new pack. |

entering rescue has not been groomed adequately for some time. These
dogs require patient hours of work to get their coat in healthy condition

Adopting a rescue should never be considered a cheap option for acquiring a pure bred dog, nor should deciding on adoption be considered on a whim.

The people who coordinate rescues are conscientious about placing a dog, and the screening process may be somewhat in-depth. A rescue volunteer's primary concern is the well being of the dogs in her care, and that is where her allegiance lies. You should not expect to get a dog from a rescue group without meeting and talking with someone from the selected rescue organization. |
