Standard for The
Newfoundland

Head- broad, massive,
strongly developed occipital bone; moderately sloped stop
Eyes-dark brown, relatively small, deep set, wide
apart
Muzzle-broad, deep, clean-cut, covered with short
fine hair
Ears - small, triangular with rounded tips; well set
back, close to the head
Chest-full, deep, brisket reaches to elbows, shoulders well
muscled
Forelegs- well muscled, straight, parallel (front view) with
elbows pointing to rear; pasterns strong, slightly sloping
Neck- strong, well set on shoulders
Back - broad, strong; level topline
Tail - set follows natural line of croup; bone
reaches to hocks; tail broad, strong at base; kink in tail objectionable
Hindquarters - powerful, well muscled, thighs fairly
long, stifles well bent, hocks (rear view) perpendicular to the ground
Feet - proportionate to body, cat type, well
rounded, tight; toes firm, arched, webbed; may be trimmed for neatness
Coat- water resistant, outer coat coarse, moderately
long; straight, flat (slight wave permissible)
Color - black , white and black (Landseer), brown or
gray; white on chin, chest, toes and tip of tail acceptable on a solid
color dog; excessive ticking on a Landseer undesirable
Size- average adult height- males 28"; bitches 26";
average adult weight- male 130#-150#, bitches 100#-120#
